Life Safety

Our specialists in life safety systems, including security, fire protection/detection, and code compliance, are an integral part of our Campus Services team. Sustainability
Higher education institutions are focused on sustainability. While some institutions are addressing leadership in climate change through The American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) to develop comprehensive plans to achieve climate neutrality, other campuses are leading their own individualized efforts to reduce their carbon footprint. C&S supports all campus sustainability initiatives and our Campus Services planning, design, and construction team can help any campus meet their goals of sustainability.
C&S is dedicated to being a sustainable firm with both our internal actions and the projects we complete for our clients. At C&S, we have a number of passionate individuals who have made being green part of their daily lives. Our LEED accredited professionals represent a variety of disciplines, including architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site, civil, and structural.
As a testament to our dedication to sustainability, our recently completed 22,000-square-foot building addition at our headquarters is currently under consideration for a silver LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. The addition is projected to utilize 39% less energy than a building designed to ASHRAE standard 90.1 requirements. These savings are being obtained through heat-recovery on the HVAC systems, day lighting, and high efficiency lighting fixtures, while simultaneously providing 25% more outdoor air per person than the ASHRAE standard 62.1 for increased indoor air quality. Building Information Modeling
One of the tools C&S uses to aid Sustainable Design is Building Information Modeling (BIM). C&S offers a full-service integrated design approach in 3-D using Autodesk Building Systems, which includes intelligent data associated with objects and provides a total building solution. The ultimate end users of the building (professors, students and administrators) are given the ability to see a virtual model with accurate details and spatial attributes. From a facilities design and construction perspective, 3-D design improves trade/trade coordination and provides higher quality drawings that are more easily constructed. Facilities Information Management System
Continued maintenance is equally important to campus sustainability. A Facilities Information Management System (FIMS) is a powerful tool to track your assets. C&S is uniquely qualified to implement FIMS through our experience with GIS programming and AutoCAD while leveraging the knowledge resources of our core design and construction business. Implementing an FIMS protects and retains the institutional knowledge held by your maintenance staff, as well as catalogs crucial documentation about your campus' property and assets. Through our diverse in-house resources, we can provide services to collect data, create the GIS/AutoCAD based information product with links to preventative maintenance software, train the end user, update the information on a reoccurring basis, and provide a turnkey operational service.
