Cayuga County Center for Behavioral Health Services

C&S provided full architectural, engineering and site design services for this project which consolidated three out-patient elements of Cayuga County’s mental health services into a single location. The project included renovation of an existing, 16,350-square-foot, single story building with a 2,700-square-foot basement, construction of a 9,800-square-foot addition, and landscape architecture for the 2-acre site.

The existing building renovation involved a full gut of the interior down to the existing structural frame and brick veneer / CMU back-up exterior walls. Full renovation provided the opportunity to bring the entire building into compliance with program standards for behavioral health and with current codes.

The single-story addition was designed with systems similar to the existing including structural steel frame and exterior wall assembly of brick veneer over metal stud and sheathing backup. The addition also has a steep slope roof that matches the slope of the existing roof. The site is bordered by three streets making it difficult to recognize the main entrance. A prominent pergola was added to the front of the building to make the entry easy to find, and provide some shelter for clients being dropped off.
