Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES New Vocational School
C&S served as the construction manager, LEED coordinator and building commissioning authority for the new $43 million, 200,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Area Vocational Center for Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES. The campus is built on approximately 44 acres of land previously owned by the Cayuga County Industrial Development Agency once used as farmland.
The new facility is the first LEED-certified (Silver) public school facility in New York state. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system was established by the United States Green Building Council. LEED measures and ranks a building’s environmental performance in terms of six general categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation & Design.
As the construction manager, C&S developed a conceptual CPM schedule and prepared a detailed construction estimate. The estimate was within $3,200 of the actual bid results on the $43 million project. C&S also developed the general requirements of the specifications, aided the owner and architect in coordination of the Green Building Certification process, and performed a third-party review of the completed plans.
