C&S Wins State and National Engineering Excellence Awards
C&S Engineers was awarded three awards from the New York chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and a national award from the national ACEC organization.
C&S received both state and national awards for the design of an innovative upstream eel passageway for the New York Power Authority. This project helps native American eels migrate safely above a hydropower dam on the St. Lawrence River in Massena, New York. In just the first two months, more than 8,000 eels traveled safely through the system. At the national level, C&S received an honor award from ACEC. The project won a diamond award from the New York State chapter of ACEC, the highest award given at the state level. ACEC New York awarded just 24 diamond awards in 2006. As a diamond-level winner, the project was eligible for submission into the national competition, which comprises diamond-award winners from all 50 states. Of the nearly 200 entries in the national competition, there was one grand concept winner, seven grand award winners, and sixteen honor award winners.
C&S also received an ACEC-New York Silver Award for the design and construction management of the new state-of-the-art Steuben CountyƱErwin Transfer and Recycling Facility, a project that improved safety and efficiency, and has been welcomed by the county and public alike. C&S received a second Silver Award for a study the firm performed for for SUNY ESF that evaluated the feasibility of the construction of an electric biomass gasification combined heat and power plant in Syracuse. The objective of the study was to explore the requirements for wood gasification in New York State using indigenous fuels.
ACEC is the voice of America's engineering industry. The more than 5,500 firms comprising the council's membership are engaged in a wide range of engineering works that propel the nation's economy, and enhance and safeguard America's quality of life.
