Arc of Jefferson-St. Lawrence Renovation
C&S provided full architectural and engineering services for the reconstruction/restoration of the main services dayhab building at the Gaffney St. campus. The original building was constructed in 1969 and had one primary addition in 1972. This is the first major renovation project since the addition.
The project includes restoration of the existing parking lots and traffic patterns at the bus drop off for the adult dayhab and pre-school locations. The 43,650-square-foot building was completely renovated for better function and efficiency, including all new mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
The project boasts lots of natural lighting in all of the classrooms along with energy efficient lighting and mechanical systems. The interior environment was designed to provide sustainable and sensory stimulating finishes. Along with the dayhab services, the project also includes an Article 16 clinic for individuals with developmental disabilities. The design was phased to maintain external services in the preschool on the south end, while renovating the adult dayhab on the north end. The project won a 2022 ACEC NY Gold Award for Engineering Excellence.
