Syracuse Airport Terminal Expansion and Renovation
C&S provided design, pre-construction and construction management services for the $63 million, LEED Gold certified Syracuse Hancock International Airport terminal expansion and renovation. The project included demolition of 28,000 square feet of existing structure, construction of a 147,000-square-foot, two-story addition, renovation of 39,000 square feet of existing terminal, replacement of all terminal HVAC equipment, north and south terminal exterior canopy extensions, and life safety system improvements throughout the entire terminal. In addition, computerized baggage handling conveyor systems with inline baggage security screening capabilities and areas were included. Construction covered 11 phases. The biggest challenge was relocating all airline ticketing and baggage handling for nearly a year, while avoiding any detrimental effects to airline operations. In addition, all airport employees and patrons were adjacent to the construction, so safety was primary.
