Syracuse Airport Terminal Renovation and Expansion
C&S was the architect, engineer, and construction manager for a LEED Gold, 147,000-square-foot, $63 million terminal expansion, renovation, security, and access improvement project. The entire existing structure was modeled using BIM to ensure compatibility and reduce conflicts. The new second-level centralized TSA screening point includes a dramatic panoramic curved curtain wall with views onto the airfield, concession kiosks, and seating. The screening area includes ten positions with room for expansion. There is new space for retail and food services in both concourses. The TSA baggage screening was relocated behind the ticket counters in new additions that accommodate full in-line baggage screening systems. A new emergency operations center houses check-in areas, conference rooms, large town hall area, operations room, communications room, and utility spaces. Sustainability measures included premium efficient motors, energy recovery HVAC systems, low-flow lavatory fixtures, rainwater harvesting, and recycled building materials. The project received a Gold Engineering Excellence award from ACEC New York.
