Lafayette Highway Garage
C&S designed and provided construction administration for a new highway department facility for the Town of Lafayette. The 23,000-square-foot facility has storage and service areas for equipment and a locker room, a training room, offices, and amenities for employees. An initial programming study gave the town three alternatives based on cost, function, and size. The town held a vote on the project, so C&S was involved very early to help promote the project and prepared renderings and site options to inform the voters. Pre-engineered structural components enabled unobstructed floor spaces and eased installation. To minimize costs, some work was completed using owner-provided resources. A geomembrane below the floor slabs eliminates subgrade emissions into the building. Energy-efficient mechanical equipment generated NYSERDA rebates and keeps operational costs down. Building information modeling helped efficiently design and coordinate multiple trades, and verify size and layout efficiency requirements.
