Exchange and Lake Streets Reconstruction
Exchange Street and Lake Street are gateways into Geneva, NY, that connect the downtown business district with state roads and the New York State Thruway. Exchange Street is a major north-south artery through the Finger Lakes region. Both streets were worn out and in need of major work and C&S designed and oversaw construction of improvements. The roads were rebuilt, not just from the ground up, but the water, sanitary, and storm lines under the pavement were all replaced. The reconstructed streets were made more pedestrian-friendly in step with new complete streets practices, including new concrete sidewalks and ADA ramps, on-street parking, pedestrian-scale street lighting, pedestrian-activated traffic signals, decorative Streetprint Duratherm crosswalks, and colored stamped concrete snow storage areas that simulate red brick. A street crossing for the Finger Lakes Railway was rebuilt with full light and gate protection to protect vehicles and pedestrians. The project helped to spark a downtown revitalization that continues today.
