Runway 5 Extension

C&S performed all consulting services for the extension of Runway 5 and its parallel taxiway to 8,700 feet, including design, public outreach, funding consultation, and construction management. The extension enables longer haul flights to the West Coast and Europe. The project was the first airfield project in the country to receive an Envision Gold Award, and also received a Platinum Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies. The scope included:

  • 1,500 feet runway and taxiway extension
  • A new EMAS for runway safety area (RSA) compliance
  • Edge, touchdown zone, and centerline lighting; signage, electrical infrastructure upgrades, and pavement markings
  • Runway pavement profile improvement
  • 150,000-cubic-yard embankment
  • New ALSF-2 approach lights and relocated ILS component infrastructure
  • Improved stormwater infrastructure
  • Relocation of cemetery monuments
  • Environmental mitigation as required by the FAA EIS Record of Decision
  • Sustainability initiatives
