Project

Bemus Point Streetscape

The Village of Bemus Point is a growing tourist destination. Parking and circulation issues, and conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians needed to be addressed. C&S improved those conditions through extensive streetscape and complete streets enhancements. With a focus on all modes of transportation, the project included installation of over-width sidewalks, redesign of parking, improved crosswalks and signage, enhanced pedestrian-level lighting, and installation of street furniture. Existing sidewalks and snow storage strips were removed to widen travel lanes, parking spaces and sidewalks. 1,400 feet of Lakeside Drive and 1,600 feet of Main Street were removed and replaced. Special wayfinding signage was designed in the theme of the Bemus Point community to improve direction for visitors to tourist sites, commercial and eating establishments, remote parking locations, and events.  Enhanced crosswalks provide superior protection for pedestrians and are even a gathering spot in the middle of the commercial district. Landscaping and street furniture were installed along the newly improved streets and sidewalks, including seating areas overlooking Chautauqua Lake.
