About the Project

The Shoemaker Gas Turbine is a peak generating station. Peak generating stations generally run when there is a high electrical demand. The Shoemaker Gas Turbine operates within Orange and Rockland’s Middletown operations center. The applicant proposes to add a water injection air pollution control system to control oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions at the Shoemaker Gas Turbine Facility. In addition, the facility will use only natural gas during the ozone season to meet the regulatory requirements of 6 NYCRR Subpart 227-3. The proposed Shoemaker facility will maintain its current limit on operating hours, as well as commit to limiting carbon monoxide (CO) and NOx emissions in order to comply with state regulatory requirements implemented for the safety of the surrounding communities.

As the Shoemaker Gas Turbine facility plans to implement measures to mitigate emissions and adhere to regulatory standards, the focus on worker safety remains paramount within the oil and gas industry. Operating within Orange and Rockland’s Middletown operations center, the facility must uphold stringent safety protocols to safeguard its workforce. This includes investing in comprehensive training programs to equip employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate potential hazards effectively.

Moreover, embracing oil and gas advanced technologies presents an opportunity to enhance worker safety across operations. From remote monitoring systems to predictive maintenance tools, integrating innovative solutions can proactively identify risks and minimize the likelihood of accidents or incidents. By leveraging these cutting-edge technologies, the Shoemaker facility can not only optimize operational efficiency but also prioritize the well-being of its workers, fostering a culture of safety and resilience within the gas sector.
