Employee Spotlight: Alayna Pliszka, Project Environmental Scientist

In the vast and dynamic landscape of any successful organization, the true driving force behind its accomplishments lies within the individuals who pour their dedication, creativity, and expertise into their roles day in and day out.

Today we are proud to introduce you to Alayna Pliszka, Project Environmental Scientist here at C&S Companies.

Where are you located?

I am located in the Buffalo office and have been with C&S for six years.

What does a typical day at C&S look like?

In a thrilling professional capacity, my days are brimming with a spectrum of tasks. From orchestrating diverse plans and permits for industrial clients – encompassing SWPPPs, SPCCs, and bulk storage registrations – to guiding fuel facility endeavors, my expertise ensures seamless execution. I also nurture new talents by mentoring them through Phase I ESAs, while simultaneously offering strategic insights for regulatory conundrums. The thrill continues with occasional on-site compliance visits. Adding another layer, I craft targeted proposals that blueprint collaborative success. This dynamic blend of roles fuels my passion for turning complexities into achievements.

What drew you to your career choice?

After changing my college major from Aerospace Engineering (math – yuck) to environmental geosciences, I knew that I wanted to end up at an engineering firm working on assessment and remediation projects in the environment. Once I got my feet under me at C&S, I realized quickly that I liked environmental regulations and making sure everyone is following the law.

What motivates you?

As much as possible, I want the earth that we get to enjoy now to be available for my kids, and their future kids.

What are your favorite types of projects to work on?

Anything related to oil storage – fuel facilities, petroleum bulk storage compliance projects, SPCC plans. I also really like SEQR projects.

Which of the C&S Core Values resonates with you the most?

Authenticity resonates the most with me. I feel like anyone who has had a chance to work with me knows me, the actual me – how I am with family, friends, and coworkers. When you bring your authentic self to work, I feel the connections you make are stronger.

When not at work where can you be found having fun?

After moving to a new house last summer at 36 weeks pregnant (0 out of 10, not recommended), this is the first summer I am able to enjoy our pool on the weekends. Besides spending a lot of time with my family, I try to go to the Hamburg Farmer’s Market, and get out and walk somewhere each weekend.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I am absolutely fascinated by language, accents and speech patterns. In another life, I’d be a speech pathologist.

What is your favorite TV Show/Podcast/Movie/Author etc.?

Anything comedic – Bobs Burgers, Parks and Rec, Stepbrothers, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, etc.

Where in the world would you like to visit?

Either Banff National Park in Alberta or Switzerland – I am mesmerized by mountains.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

“It’s not that serious.” Sometimes I take life a little too seriously, and forget to smile, laugh or have fun.

We hope you have enjoyed our most recent employee spotlight as much as we enjoy sharing such amazing team members! Thank you, Alayna!
