Employee Spotlight: Rob Gleason

Today we are proud to introduce you to Rob Gleason, Department Manager in our Education, Healthcare and Public Facilities group, here at C&S Companies.

What office location do you call home and how long have you been with C&S Companies?

I work out of the Syracuse, NY office and have been at C&S Companies for 5 years.

What does a typical day at C&S look like?

I would say there is really not a “typical” day which is what I enjoy most about this profession. Any given day could be out in the field looking at a prospective project, in the office taking part in design meetings or participating in a job shadow for high school or college age individuals looking to get first-hand experience into our world here at C&S.

What drew you to your career choice?

My father owned an electrical contracting business which allowed me to get experience on the construction side of our industry fairly early on. Through this experience, I was fortunate to interface with electrical engineers and get a glimpse into the engineering side of the business as well, which ultimately led me down the electrical engineering path.

What motivates you?

The challenge that comes with the A/E/C profession. I was never a “star” when it came to math, science or STEM related classes, which in turn caused me to have to work harder to be successful in them. I enjoyed the work and challenge that came with it and continue to enjoy the challenges that come with this industry.

What has been your proudest accomplishment, in your career?

Passing the PE Exam is my proudest accomplishment thus far. A lot of time, effort and even failure went into the process and it was a great feeling to achieve that goal. Recently, another proud moment was being part of the C&S Personal Mastery Class of 2023. Going through this experience with 11 other C&S teammates was extremely fulfilling and something we are very fortunate to have available to us internally. The journey was truly life-altering and the lessons learned through our time together will continue to impact my life both personally and professionally for many years to come!

What are your favorite types of projects to work on?

Part of what I enjoy most about C&S Companies is the variety of projects we have the opportunity to work on. We do not do a high volume of them, however, I would say athletic fields are always an enjoyable end product. They are not particularly difficult from an engineering standpoint, but once complete they have a significant impact on the community, and they are aesthetically pleasing.

Which of the C&S Core Values resonates with you the most?

Integrity is the core value that resonates with me the most. C&S has always been known for our integrity and something that sets us apart.

When not at work where can you be found having fun?

I enjoy time on the golf course or the boat, and staying active by running and going to the gym. Checking out a brewery or winery with friends and family is also something I thoroughly enjoy.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

During high school and my first two years of college I worked at the Ice Center at SUNY Broome CC. Part of my responsibilities included driving the Zamboni. Something I feel only a small percentage of people can say they’ve done.

What is your favorite TV Show/Podcast/Movie/Author etc.?

I’m not a huge TV person, but I do enjoy podcasts…the Ed Mylett Show and Money Guy Show are two that come to mind. As far as movies go, I would have to say Miracle. It was the most iconic sports event in American history and was recreated very well as a movie many years later.

Where in the world would you like to visit?

Italy has always been on my list and my wife and I will be traveling there this May. We’ve heard a ton of great stories/reviews from many different people, including fellow C&S teammates!

What is the best advice you have ever received?

I have been fortunate in my short career to have had and continue to have great mentors. The one piece of advice that seems to be a common theme and something that has been stated many times is, “control what you can control.” It is something that I am continuously working on, and will always strive to be better with, but it is a great piece of advice that I will carry with me throughout my career.

We hope you have enjoyed our most recent employee spotlight as much as we enjoy sharing such amazing team members! Thank you, Rob!
