Employee Spotlight: Joni Steigerwald, Principal Consultant

Today we are proud to introduce you to Joni Steigerwald, Principal Consultant here at C&S Companies.

What office location do you call home and how long have you been with C&S Companies?

I am located in the Syracuse office and have been with C&S for 18 years.

What does a typical day at C&S look like?

A day at C&S includes collaborating with colleagues, coordinating on different projects that require client interaction, as well as FAA regulatory requirements, and continual learning of what’s new in this industry. My days here are never dull!

What drew you to your career choice?

During college, I had an internship in project management as a consultant to a large transit agency. I loved working on projects with a team and found a great connection to C&S Engineers when I moved here from Texas.

What motivates you?

My family, my colleagues, and every ounce of sunshine we get here in Syracuse!

What has been your proudest accomplishment, in your career?

One of my proudest accomplishments has been bringing a project to completion under budget after a long-time struggle with the schedule. With a lot of coordination and back and forth with the FAA, a pandemic, and multiple changes in management, the project had its share of setbacks. Seeing it to completion without going over budget felt really good! And the client and FAA were really happy with our work.

What are your favorite types of projects to work on?

I really enjoy working with our clients to deliver plans that will help their airport. I am a people person, so anytime I can make a valuable connection with our clients, I feel it brings value to the quality work we bring to them. Almost all of my projects require some level of public engagement. This is one of my favorite parts of the job!

Which of the C&S Core Values resonates with you the most?

All-In. I’m a team player and enjoy being fully engaged.

When not at work where can you be found having fun?

Watching our daughters’ college lacrosse games in fall and spring, boating and golfing in summer, and cooking and relaxing in winter!

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I love a good spreadsheet to organize tasks. I love bridges and tunnels! I cannot whistle. I’m less dull than my fun facts, I promise.

What is your favorite TV Shows & Movies

So many…Ted Lasso is one of my all-time current day favorites (fingers crossed for more). Cheers never gets old if you can find it on TV. I can quote most lines in Tommy Boy, Steel Magnolias, Elf, and St. Elmo’s Fire.

Where in the world would you like to visit?

Italy and Greece for their beauty and food – I’ll always choose to visit by the water!

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Not sure who would have shared this in my life, but philosophies I live by are “pick your battles” and “don’t sweat the small stuff” – sometimes easier said than done, but as I get older, they really do ring true.

We hope you have enjoyed our most recent employee spotlight as much as we enjoy sharing such amazing team members! Thank you, Joni!
